Business Preparedness

How’s the Prince William Sound Region performing?
Roughly one-quarter of PWS business report having a written emergency preparedness and business continuity plan.

How is this metric determined?
PWSEDD surveyed businesses in 2015.

Why does this matter?
The PWS region has experienced major natural and man-made disasters in the past. Extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall in 2011, have resulted in business disruptions, property damage, and interruption of transportation and utility services. National statistics indicate that 25 percent of businesses never reopen after a major disaster. Increasing business resiliency is a national strategic objective. PWSEDD will be working with district communities and businesses to increase business preparedness in the coming years.
