Business Retention

How’s the Prince William Sound Region performing?
For all active business licenses holders in the district, the average business survival is 5.7 years.

How is this metric determined?
PWSEDD analyzed the business license data base as maintained by the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development. The data set for businesses with a physical address within the district was extracted and culled for duplicates and analyzed based on original issue date. All active businesses were included in a weighted average from 1990 – 2014.

Why does this matter?
Long-term business survival is a strong indicator of economic vitality, a favorable business climate, and overall business preparedness (planning, support, continuity, and succession).
